these R the largest opening in most homes. :confused:

I took the spa cover off so it wouldn't blow away and put it in front of the sliders so if debris hits them they may be protected.

But they at the same time need to secured to the opening (not to blow away), I just propped a few 2x4's on a 45 from the lanai screen base aluminum and screwed it into the bottom of the spa cover which is plywood

this can help also if your lanai was closed in with glass and you left the primary sliders in place.

If one did break you can use big sofa cushions or a mattress to protect the interior.

The Custom Windows guy said our lanai sliders (single pane) were good for 75 MPH, didn't seem like a whole lot at the time, still doesn't. We sold that house 2 months ago. Hope the new owner is smart enough to remove them or at the very least stack them full open.

I have those and thought I was pretty safe with them closed, am I wrong?

What I do know is this.
I have removed them several times for a cleaning. They are tempered, they do flex somewhat and depending upon the install some sections are easier to lift and pull out then the others. If I were living in the house now, I would open them to the full stacked position for strength.
I am talking about the full length sliders, 7' in height.

You want them closed, don't let wind pressure inside the area.

If our lanai sliders survive it will be a miracle. They're vinyl- 70 mph rated--if they die--we'll put the good stuff in an a/c the lanai-went with vinyl- because the boss didn't want to

Stack the sections and creating an open lanai, just as you would on a nice day. I would rather have wind pressure against my double pane sliders than against the single pane 7' tall sliders.

Our sliders are double pane so we will keep them closed.

We have heavy fabric shades in out lanai. They have 4 gromits on each side that slides on the lanai frame and then turned. There are ropes that pull these shades up and down. There are screens on the outside with plexi kick stands. The shades pull down to the top of these sills.
The canvas shades (somewhat heavy) are on the inside. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THESE ARE FOR SHADE OR TO PROTRC HOME/ LANAI FROM STORMS.
