Did You Know? The Percentage of Left-Handed People

Science has discovered a great deal about why being a lefty shows up in only 10 percent of the world's population.

A study found that lefties are probably left-handed because of a balance between competition and cooperation in human evolution. Cooperation favors same-handedness (sharing tools), and competition favors the unusual (southpaws have advantage in a fight.) The 90-10 ratio of right-handed to left-handed has remained stable for over 5,000 years.

My parents had 3 children. Two of the three are left-handed. I wonder how that happened? I'm sure there is a genetic explanation for it.

the word for being on the left is SINISTER

(left-handed people are termed SINESTRAL)

I know a few left handers and have had to make sure that while eating we do not bump forks and knives a lot.

I come from a family of five, four of us lefties.

My brother and I grew up with a couple of left handed brothers. One became an oral surgeon, the other a very successful lawyer.

When I was a patent attorney at Los Alamos National Laboratory I was amazed at how many of the inventive scientists were left handed. I once heard left handedness and high intelligence correlate for genetic reasons.

One of my grandmothers was ambidextrous as am I, doing some things as a lefty, some as a righty.

Probably left handedness is discouraged in some cultures so children are trained to do things such as write as if they were right handed.

Left-handed dinner guests appreciate a seat at the end of the table, especially when seating is tight.

"Rubbing elbows" in social situations is not meant to be taken literally. :)

I know that many people who may eat and write left handed throw and shoot pool right handed, etc. Right handed people are pretty much exclusively right handed with the left hand just hanging there.[emoji6] Is anybody totally left handed?

My father had 6 children and 3 of us are lefties. I can eat or write only with my left hand, but other things I can use either hand for.
I'm sure most of you have heard this, but I love it, so I will repeat it for those who haven't.

The right side of the body is controlled by the left side of the brain; and the left side of the body is controlled by the right side of the brain;
So only left-handed people are in their right mind????????????

While In college (several moons ago) in a psychology class I remember reading left handed people have a higher IQ than right handed. Maybe that is the reason I was never the brightest bulb in the ceiling. Just a thought.....

I am left handed and do try to sit on the end as you suggested. However, one thing I noticed is that when I sit with a right handed person on my left (happens a lot), it seems that I am more accommodating with space sharing then they are with me. I presume this is because I sit next to righties more often than they sit next to lefties.

Going back to junior high school, I always sat at a right handed desk as they did not have many left handed desks. When I got to high school, one of my teachers noticed I was left handed and switched desks for me. I was "messed up" for a while as it was unusual to me........

Some things are just done better left handed.

Ask a left handed soldier what it is like to have hot brass ejected onto the side of their face.

I always sighted with both eyes open despite the ranting of my drill instructors. I scored better than most. They finally gave up after they saw my results. Whatever works.

Drums

I play drums left handed and right footed, looks odd but just feels natural.... Worked fine for over 50 years.
