Last night's Emmy winner; The Handmaid's Tale.

I didn't watch it. Looked at the summary, seems very intense and bloody and sad.

It won the Emmy for best Drama Series. Anybody have comments?

I loved it. I signed up for Hulu just to be able to see it but it would not be for everyone.

A social allegory? With the end inconclusive?

I read the list of nominees, and since I don't watch network TV, found that I hadn't seen any of the nominated shows, and knew the names of very few of the "actors". I feel pretty good about that.

it's about the Christian version of a sharia society. women's only role is to procreate. for various reasons the fertility rate is low and not all women are fertile. those that are are made handmaidens to the powerful leaders to provide children for their infertile wife. women aren't allowed to read, work, have a say in anything. the leaders who dictate this are hypocrites that defy the rules but enforce a strict doctrine. It was chilling to watch.
