Thank you taking the time to care about this. And the catastrophe about the hit the USVI and PR will sadly get little notice. Maria is an incredibly powerful storm. The air pressure readings are lower than the lowest registered by Irma and it tonight has sustained, not peak but sustained winds of 175 MPH with peak winds over 200 and still strengthening. The best that can be hoped is a temporary eye weakening during a period of eyewall reconstruction just as it hits the island.
This eye is smaller than Irma so a small shift in direction might reduce the damage to USVI of St Croix, but PR would need a large directional shift to avoid disaster.
