What is the fear of Halloween called, in psychological terms?
samhainophobia
Samhainophobia is an abnormal, persistent and unwarranted fear of Halloween. The person affected by this phobia has a conscious understanding that the fear is irrational, yet the fear persists despite reassurance by others that there is no danger. The root word comes from the ancient Celtic ritual called Samhain, a celebration to honor the harvest cycle that ended Oct. 31. During the celebration, an animal's bones would be thrown into a roaring 'bone fire,' which later became known as a 'bonfire.' Source: Forbes.com |
My only fear on Halloween is that the trick-or-treaters will take all of my 3 Musketeers or Kit Kat bars, leaving none for me to snack on the next day :)
