Coins

I inherited some old coins. I am wondering if there is anyone who can determine their value.

They are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. I would suggest that you look on Ebay to see what similar coins a selling for. If you are willing to spend a lot of time and effort to sell them online, you will get a much higher price than if you sell them to a coin dealer.

There is a new coin shop open next to Little Joey's restaurant. It's owned by my neighbor who has been in in the coin business a long time. His name is Scot and is a nice man.

Here is a good website to give you an idea of what you have.

PCGS The Standard for the Rare Coin Industry

Keep in mind that grading of coins means everything when it comes to pricing.

If you think you may have some serious coins then it would be worthwhile to have them graded

There is a coin club in The Villages. You might try reaching out to this group for advice on getting a fair valuation of the coins. If the coins are loose, the value is going to be greatly reduced. Good luck.🍀

I would go to the coin club first, be careful if you decide to sell your coins by consignment, there was a article on the Ocala TV channels about a coin shop that shorted customers on the purchase and sale of their coins.

Another very important comment is Do Not Clean them. Many people want to polish coins up so they will look pretty when they go to sell them. You will ruin the surface of the coin and lower its value.
Handle them (if really necessary) by holding the coin between your thumb and forefinger on the edge.
If they are loose coins separate them by metallic content. They could have reactions to the different metals.
If you have paper money in the collection - Do Not fold the notes. Keep them as crisp and flat as possible. Handle them as little as possible.
