Battery configuration

What's better 4-12vor6-8v I have a4-12 setup in a2007 CCDS need new batteries in spring considering going to 6-8v what do you think

village dreamer 11-02-2017 09:17 PM

what's better 5 gal tank or 10 gal tank, the more battery's the better, you pay more for more distance. 6- 8volt is better,

8 - 6volts is the best if they can be fit into your cart. If you go with 6 - 8, get the Trojan Ranger batteries.

Its amp/hrs do the math--the more the amp/hrs the better--we had 28 batteries on our boat- 4 for engine starts, 4 for gen -set starts--12 for inverter bank, 6 for house bank--the engine batteries were 8D's--the rest were all 6V==Trojans--I know batteries

The informal rule for batteries is, the more lead the better. 8 batteries have more lead than 6 batteries.

You want deep cycle golf cart batteries. Nothing else. 6, 8 volt batteries are what you need. Trojans are the best, Dekas are also good. Beware of discount batteries.

If you are changing the configuration of the original batteries, (4 12's to 6 8's), you may want to double check that your charger is still suitable, yes I realize you will still have 48 vdc, but there may be other subtle differences, better to be safe than sorry.

Do the batteries charge in sequence or all at once?

village dreamer 11-03-2017 12:45 PM

all at once.they are in a series circuit.

Very important--make sure the area where the batteries are mounted in is clean--if you have acid drips it can result in shorting of the batteries and individual batteries will cause other batteries to go bad

When I served on an old diesel electric submarine, use to scrub batteries (keep the solution away from the battery fills) with a mixture of baking soda & pure water (distilled water)-- and make sure nothing goes into the batteries but distilled water(not purified or filtered water)--after scrubbing the batteries rinse them with"pure" water

I had 4 12 volts in my EZ Go and I changed it over to 6 8 volts. It is a lot more reliable. I put in Trojan Rangers.

I changed my ezgo from 4 12s to 8 6v and never looked back. I had battery boys do the conversion. Very reasonable. After living on a boat for 7+ years where you live by batteries, the more amp hours the better. If you choose to go to 8 six volts, look on the site for AJBrown? I think that was the name. He did a wonderful series on a ccds conversion and gives plenty of run time information after completion of the work.
