Where do guys work on their vehicles?

I will be moving to TV in a few years. My only issue is (or will be) where do you work on your vehicles? I saw one person working on his car in his driveway but I'm not sure if thats permitted? I don't need nor want neighbors getting mad at me. No, I would not want to get grease all around our driveway, etc., I work cleanly. However, living with such minimal outdoor space I just don't understand where I'd be able to tinker...Also where do all you guys keep your antique cars? Are there any clubs for "nutty mechanics" who like to get together just to talk about cars? My wife has been visiting TV since 2002 and just got me down there a year ago September and a 2nd visit this past May. I have my reservations but will make the move because she absolutely "LOVES" it there. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks and have a great day...

With all the classic cars in The Villages, you would think that a common shop facility would be very popular. After all, we do have a wood shop. Somebody must have tried this at one time.

Most of us who live in TV and own antique cars do our tinkerin' in the garage without a problem. Consider a house with a golf cart garage so you have enough room for your antique car. If you have more than 1 old car a storage unit is about the only option.

I only drive my Model T Ford around here, so a trailer is not necessary. If it were, storage options are expensive.

I don't think people want to see guys tinkering with their cars in the driveway. Keep it in the garage.

Why would people object to somebody tinkering with their car in their own driveway. It's a harmless activity.

It's all subjective. Some people seem to think seeing a 20-inch satellite dish is ugly.

That's pretty sad. I understand HOA's for keeping property values up and the neighborhood nice, but sometimes rules go too far.

I'd never have a "project" car on blocks in the driveway, but If I wanted to take 15 minutes and change my oil or check my spark plugs I would never even think twice about it, and my neighbors wouldn't either.

Sometimes people go too far with rules and scare good people away. A place where I have to think "if it's ok" to do anything is scary and sad. I hope it isn't really like that there. Just seeing the question asked is scary.

In another 55+ community up the road from me, they have a rule that unless you are driving in or out of your garage, you are supposed to keep it closed at all times. That's nutsy.

Dont the deed restrictions prohibit working on a car on your own premises except to make it mobile so it can be moved to another location for repairs?

The subject of vehicles in your driveway was discussed this week by Monica Anderson in the Recreation News "Our Place" column. She makes it pretty clear that "tinkering" is not allowed. Here's the link:

Kathie:

How about a ride in my car? If Pauline approves

I do minor repairs in my garage and haven't had a issue. I know that some owners do have their cars in storage, but where they work on them I don't know.
