Golf cart radio question

Does anyone who has installed a golf cart radio have any specific recommendations as to type, model ,wattage? Reception capabilities?

I have an 08 yamaha gas. Thanks

I bought an overhead console that matched our dash and installed the radio and speakers in it. Installed a roof antenna, ran the wiring down to the fuse block in the engine compartment. Any automotive 12 volt radio will work. I bought the speakers and radio at Walmart.

Did you get a marine radio? I was thinking that with it being soemwhat subject to climate, marine would be better.

Zummy... a word of caution... if you have an electric cart, you may not be able to listen to the AM broadcast when you are moving. The cart motor generates an electric field that is the same frequency as that of the AM radio. Hence, when the electric cart is under way, a static interference prevents the radio from receiving an AM signal. I believe this is true even with a portable radio in the cart or on your person if you are riding in the cart. If you want to listen to The Villages AM radio station in the cart, you cannot be moving. FM and satellite radio services, however, work fine.

I've had it installed over a year and been in plenty of rain storms and have not had a water issue. That's one reason I put it overhead. I have heard electric carts have a noise problem. With the gas cart AM is not a problem.

you can go back to Yamaha and have them install the one that comes with their carts. They are installed overhead. We have 2 Yamaha gas carts and have their radio in both. They work great. They also have a place to plug in your iPod so you can have additional music. We enjoy this when just out for a ride.

Thanks folks. I think a marine radio overhead is the answer. I'll price at TV yamaha and on line. My wife wants and Ipod plug as well.
