What things are wrong with the villages, gives it a "bad" image?

Traffic, small lots, high amenity fees, greedy developer, adult children, crowded golf courses.....

What is the worst thing to you?

I don't think anything affects the great image of the villages.

Proud to be a villager

The Villages already has a large target on its back. Often times when I mention the Villages to my friends up north they may very likely say,
"Oh, that's the STD or Viagra capital of the world." Or, "I hear they have drunken orgies on the squares every night."

I would really hate to think of what would happen if a major national news organization read our little political forum and painted the entire villages
as racist, homophobes, white supremacist, etc. and then used actual posts from actual villagers to prove their point.

One reason I think there should be at least a modicum of monitoring on this forum.

I avoid telling people where I live.

I made two trips down here before I purchased. What I didn't like then about TV I still do not like. I anticipated overcrowding and told my sibling so before I bought.

I laugh at all the sex stories etc concerning TV and wonder why people get so serious and angry about them. Its obviously a "gosh old folks still having sex laugh"

I believe TV, and its lifestyle, is over exaggerated, over priced, over built. I have lived in a number of areas that are as clean and provide ample activity, etc

The memorandum of understanding was that the Developer would build then get out of the way. I can tell you the Developer has found a number of ways to stay in total control leaving residents with no right to vote. Some folks believe this is a good thing. I do not
This is not a personal this is business and the Developer, in my humble opinion views itself as cattle barons and residents as their cash cows that they will milk at every opportunity.

We are all entitled to our own opinion. that's mine This isn't an issue of right or wrong . It just is

Personal Best Regards:

GOOD...hopefully they'll stay away...knowing they're NOT wanted here.

So they can censor the TRUTH?

I love The Villages. I think they do everything extremely well except for golf.

Traffic and overcrowding depend on your perspective. If you've ever lived in a city of over 100,000 people you would never think of this as crowded. Also, pretty much every place in the State of Florida becomes more crowded in the winter months. It comes with the territory.

I wish that we were closer to a good beach. Having to drive two hours to Clearwater is inconvenient. But I feel that the benefits of The Villages lifestyle more than outweigh that. I'd also like to see a better, faster route to a major highway. It seems that it's a half hour to get to either I-75 of the Turnpike.

As far as golf goes, I've said it here before. The courses are poorly designed, poorly maintained and poorly managed.

There is no way a golf course should be closed for two months after a hurricane no matter how much rain we've had. That shows that the drainage is poorly designed. There are several par three holes where trees intervene on the line of play requiring that the player play a substantial draw or fade around them. Again, poor design.

Large bare spots on the greens of many executive courses are the result of either poor construction or poor maintenance. The fairways on many of the executive courses are also, for the most part in terrible condition.

The fact that the "ambassadors" do almost nothing to keep play on pace or get people to do their part on maintaining the golf courses by fixing ball marks, filling divots and raking bunkers is an indication of poor management. I've been told by ambassadors that they are instructed to not upset anyone. I asked about upsetting all of the people who are doing the right things and are upset by the few not doing their part. No answer.

I've arrived at my starting time 15 minutes early only to find that my group left without me. I understand that we would like everyone to be at the course 20 minutes before their start times, but a person should never be left behind because they are on time.

The championship courses are a bit better, but you can play better quality courses for less money outside The Villages. For a community that promotes its golf the way TV does, I would think that we'd want the best courses possible. Flowers in the common areas seem to have a higher priority than the golf courses.

But I get to play golf which I thought I would never do again after an accident so I accept what's here. I do complain about it, but usually only if asked. I also realize that my background in managing golf courses for 35 years would tend to make me a bit more critical than most. Many people, maybe most who play here, do not know the difference and are fine with the courses.

Balancing everything out the advantages and lifestyle here in TV outweigh all of these issues. If they didn't, I would live here.
