Care Plus Health plans
 

Has anyone used an advantage plan called Care Plus? We have heard some good things about it and are wondering what downsides there may be.

Anyone used this insurance plan? It seems to not have many area Drs.

Do a search on this site for health care plans, but what we found out was if you have Medicare now, and go to an ADVANTAGE and then later (after 50 weeks) decide to go back to Medicare, you may be subjected to health questions and underwriting (aka higher cost coverage). I have no info about any of the ADVANTAGE plans, so I cannot help you in a plan comparison. It appears if you are in good health, the advantage plans are a good deal, if you are not, Medicare and a supplemental are a better choice, however, as I mentioned getting back to Medicare could be a problem, if your health go down hill. Please look carefully at your options, and contact SHINE for additional info.

I was a Care Plus member for over 10 years in Broward County. When I was healthy they treated me well but their interrnal systems re: specialishts and referals were difficult to navigate When my health started to fail I returned to Original Medicare and bought a supplement.

I've been on Medicare for two years now, entering my third year with Care Plus, and I have no complaints. I discussed this plan with my doctor before signing up, and he said it was one of the better Medicare Advantage programs from his perspective, but that I should fully understand that such programs are generally very good for healthy people like me, but those with chronic or acute diseases might find it too restrictive, as it is an HMO which restricts you to a network of medical support. If you want to go to UF Shands Hospital or a Mayo Clinic, for instance, good luck. They probably won't pay for it in-netowrk.

I'm going with Blue Cross Platinum Blue. I need surgery

been with care plus for 2 years with no problems, but switching to united Healthcare for no referral needed for specialist visit and more doctors when needed. They could not provide me with an opthamologist locally if needed, which I will need next year, other than retina only specialist. Care plus is lacking most specialists locally.
