Are BBQ smokers allowed in TV?

I am into smoking my own BBQ.

I built a small smoker and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any rules against using a smoker in TV.

Not sure about smokers (you did mention BBQ so I assume you're not talking about the movies), but it's nice to see you back here.....GN

Thanks Golfnut.

I've been busy golfing, working (remember work?) golfing, visiting grandkids, golfing, cookouts, golfing, fishing, golfing, yardwork, and golfing.

I've visited TOTV off and on in the summer months, but now that it is getting colder, darker, and stormier here in the northeast, I'll be here more often.:cold:

Won't be down to visit TV in 2010 :cryin2: as the economy has cut into our income and we're on a tear to get the house paid off.:coolsmiley: My wife, the lovely Diane, may retire next year so we'll see what 2011 brings.

So, how's your golf game?

I've used my electric smoker often with no comment. (other than people raving about the turkey breast) You say you built one. I 'spect if it is portable and put in garage in interims, no problem. If semi permanent or more so, problems.

Call or email Deed Compliance for facts.

Golf game hasn't changed, but then it has pretty much been the same for the last 20 years. Sorry to hear you can't make it down this year, if you change your mind this winter (hey take some of that extra money from one months additional monthly house payment and spend it on yourselves) drop me a line....GN

Thanks Golfnut. I greatly enjoyed our round on Havana last March and appreciated your willingness to play golf with an unknown wannabe on a LSP.

I built one of those terra cotta flower pot smokers as seen on The Food Network's Good Eats program. It is very portable and not very big. Would probably live outside with a cover over it. I cover itwith a Weber kettle grill cover.

I have made some awesome turkey breast on my little smoker also. Do you brine yours before smoking?

Marinade them in Italian Dressing and rub down with Williams Chili seasoning.

I'm sure (almost) that there would be no issue with your smoker on the slab, just like a grill.

Hi my friend from Maine,

Good to see you back here. We have two charcoal grills that we sue conventionally (to cook a good steak) or to smoke a turkey or leg of lamb. We picked a home where we have space to put the grills and not bother our neighbors. The only complaint has been when our neighbors can't make it over here to dinner.

Boy, that Jim can cook!

Yum,

Getting fatter all the time Kate

PS - If you and Diane get back, we'd love to have you over...

Muncle, italian dressing and chili rub, sounds great, what kind of meat are u doing. How long do you smoke it for? GN

Hi Kate,

Thanks!

I have always suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). The winters get harder and harder as I get older and do fewer outdoor winter activities.

For the first time this year, Diane is really dreading the winter. I think it is because we finally went on a LSP last Feb/Mar and we know what is waiting for us when we retire in TV.

Plus, we've had two hard winters in a row and last summer was a dud (sixty degrees and overcast for weeks on end, and rain like no one has ever seen).

Sunshine and warmth sounds really good to us right about now as the leaves fall and the air gets colder and the days get shorter.

I'm glad to hear that smokers seem to be non-offensive as I do enjoy smoked foods. There is no good BBQ (read Texas-style) within miles of us, so I'm happy to be learning to DIY.

Diane adores lamb. How do you guys smoke your lamb? What kind of wood do you use?

Thanks for the dinner invite. Next time you are in Maine let me know and we'll have you over for BBQ!

Between your and Golfnut's welcome back and invitations I'm starting to weaken about a mid-winter visit to TV...but then, I'm a pushover anyways when it comes to travel.

I have a Weber Smokey Mountain Bullit. It uses charcoal. I use it regularly to smoke all kinds of foods. The neighbors have told me, when they smell the smoke, great things are happening. OH SO GOOD.

Oh, this is great news. Fellow BBQers in TV. Is there a club for BBQers?

I'm brining turkey breast tonight and will load the smoker in the morning. Gotta try Muncle's marinade.
