Power Off

May I ask the benefits and /or disadvantages of powering off a computer after every use verus using a log off or sleep?

And I notice that in windows 7 I have a log off but in windows 10 my options are shut down, sleep, restart only?

Sleep - computer will start up faster
Power off longer start up time but battery will last longer. Also no background processing when you power off the computer.
I do not think wear and tear on the computer parts is an issue so I would turn off if you do not intend to use the computer for a while

If it's a laptop.............power down and unplug........easier on battery

I unplug most things with not in use.....................I hate trusting a $2 switch to protect my home and personal items.

I leave my Windows 7 desktop computer on all the time. But, I do shut it down and turn it back on about once a week to reboot and let it do updates. I never use the sleep option.

As you have noticed, there is no definitive answer to that question.

Here is my suggestion. Shut it down if there is no pending or scheduled tasks that need to be run
like backup, or a scheduled virus scan, or defraging a drive. If you have any of those tasks setup, you
will want to only let the computer SLEEP on those days or nights, so that it may awake and run those time consuming tasks in the "off hours"
Otherwise, shut it down and save a few bucks a month on electric.
