That comment is in the minority. I have probably watched every episode of House Hunters since the show began. I believe we have over 40 recorded right now, my wife and I will binge watching them every week or two. The one comment that is almost guranteed to be heard in at least half the shows is the wife will say, I want my white kitchen.
Myself I find the kitchen is the first room you focus your eyes to start the day, and nothing can brighten it more than a white kitchen. We had our home remodeled in Baltimore in 2008 and went with white shaker cabinets with granite and stainless steel, the whole first floor was painted light blue with plantation shutters and bamboo flooring. People would come in and say, they felt like they were in Key West.

When we bought our CYV in TV in 2011 unfortunately there was no new units with white cabinets available. By 2013 we had Remington Kitchens of Leesburg reface our existing cabinet and boy did it make a difference, my whole day is brightened. We've just added all new stainless appliances and had the floors in the kitchen, foyer and dining changed from vinyl to wood. Plantation shutters, backsplash and now, the only thing missing is a new granite or quartz countertop.
Our kitchen before - unfinished maple - hideous would the best description

Our kitchen after the refacing with white thermofoil doors and drawers

From browsing at some of the new homes online, the few that had white kitchens I would say TV has switched from thermofoil to a white painted cabinet. I saw one new home that had gray upper cabinets and white lower cabinets and they definitely appear painted. They appear to be a higher line of cabinet.
