Are we loosing our flowers??

Looks to me like they are taking out all of our flowers in the round a bout near LaBelle.and replacing the flowers with grasses. I sure hope I am wrong as this place will not.look as nice if this is the case.

They just removed the flowers from the entrance to Biscayne Villas here in Tamarind Grove. To be honest, they had been hit with frost and were looking very bad.

I will know if they are replaced with flowers or grasses, because I'm up there every day.

Could it be that the flower spot you mentioned somehow is not amenable to growing flowers? Too much shade or something else?

I'd really hate to lose the flowers; people that come to visit always comment on how beautiful they are.

spring_chicken 01-18-2018 08:30 PM

My flowers aren't loose.

Ooper 01-18-2018 10:43 PM

Don't be worried about the flowers being gone. I am sure it is only temporary. The flowers are removed every 3 or 4 months from the round-a-bouts when they mature. Then workers go in and treat the soil and plant a new batch. They will be back!

The flowers were taken out but not replaced with new flowers, rather grasses.

They do this for six weeks at this time of the year. They are colorful and lovely and can withstand this cold.

It's all good.

There are simply stated two types of flowering plants annuals and perennials. Annuals have a short life, less than a year and they bloom their heads off to be sure to make enough seeds for next years growth. Perennials, bloom once or twice a year using less energy in seed production and so come back year after year. In many cases, the line gets burred due to pants being hybridized and being planted outside of their normal location-country and climate.

The Villages regularly plant annuals and when they reach the end of their most attractive state, they remove them
What they are taking out now include marigolds. The plants cannot survive this cold. While they do produce seeds, they are hybrids so the seed will not produce the same flowers that you might expect.

I understand the OP's concern. I have never seen "grasses" planted in any of the areas where flowers have always been planted. There are winter flowers that will survive frost.......cabbage is one of those flowers which have been planted here in The Villages during the winter months when the temps dip below freezing. Whey aren't they planting cabbage? Why grasses? Grasses do not give the same beauty as flowers. Cabbage is much prettier than grasses.

Where's the cabbage?

jimmemac 01-19-2018 12:56 PM

A few years ago they made many of the flower beds smaller in many of the circle areas. And yes I always loved the cabbage but have seen none so far. It is a shame so I truely hope I am wrong. Trust me they don't plant grasses for six weeks, they plant grasses to save money.

Where have all the flowers gone?

I see many places on the multi-modal paths which can't be seen from the streets have no longer have any covering at all. Just bare and unsightly dirt. It's been that way for a year, at least Even pine straw would be an improvement. Surely it has to be a budget issue, he said, noting the increase in his amenity fee.

CWGUY 01-19-2018 02:26 PM

There is a formula for any increase in amenity fees. Has to do with the CPI and your anniversary date of buying..... but I'm sure everyone who owns here knows that.;)
