In 2005, Patriots' owner Robert Kraft visited the Russian president in St. Petersburg after the Pats won their third Super Bowl title.

"I took out the ring and showed it to Putin, and he put it on and he goes, 'I can kill someone with this ring,'" Kraft said in 2013.

"I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out."

Despite the fact that Putin walked off with the ring, Kraft still wanted it returned. Kraft gave up on his quest to get it back after he was strongly persuaded by the George W. Bush White House to let it go.
