I need 4 bottle brush trees removed. Has anyone had this done? Cost? Reliability?

This past Saturday I had a problematic Washingtonia Palm Tree removed. I used Reese's Landscaping and Tree Service. 352-303-0694. They are located in Wildwood.

I was very pleased because they knew exactly how to take the tree down and clean up everything before they left. I would use them again if needed

If the trunks are over 4 inches in diameter you will need to get ARC approval before cutting them down. Below if from the CDD-10 ARC manual, your district may be different. If you're not sure it's always safer to ask even if it's a palm tree.

2.16 Tree Removal
Home
No tree with a trunk four (4) inches or more in diameter shall be removed or effectively removed through excessive injury without first obtaining permission from the ARC. For canopy trees, the arborist will examine the tree and submit a report to the ARC. The ARC will review the documentation and their decision will be determined on a case by case basis.
Generally a tree that matures at over 30 feet and is not a palm or conifer is considered a canopy tree. Per the arborist, below is a list of the most commonly used canopy trees:
 Live Oak, Shuamrd Oak
 Laurel Oak (not recommended by the arborist – short lived and inclined to get infested with mistletoe)
 Southern Magnolia, Little Gem Magnolia (recommended for confined areas)
 Drake Elm or Chinese Elm
 Allee Elm
 Winged Elm
 Red Maple (used in The Villages but does not do well in some areas due to poor soil or dryer conditions)

The above posts refer to ARC which is important. There might be even more involved. You haven't said which county you are in, or if you are within a town - Lady Lake, Fruitland Park or Wildwood. These jurisdictions might also have requirements.

If the trunk is small (less than 4 inches) I would wrap a tow strap around the base of the trunk, attach the other end of the strap to the tow hitch on my truck, put the truck in 4WD, put the truck in first gear, and pull the tree out of the ground. Should come out clean, root ball included. Have done this before and worked great.

Before i did anything I called the ARC and was told because I lived in a Patio Villa I did not need approval. Sumter County.

Is approval needed for a dead palm tree? The trunk is much larger than 4”. I know the tree is dead. There are no more green fronds. All the fronds are brown.

If the tree is gonzo, who's gonna measure the diameter- do it at night

I don't think palms require a permit for removal since they are not trees but are actually a form of grass.

Anyone have a ‘ball park’ approximate cost to remove a palm tree?

I had someone stop by and offer to do our really tall Washatonia for about $500. The problem is they want to cut it off and leave the stump. It is easy to find someone to remove the big tree just make sure the stump is addressed and arrangements are made to remove it. Do not pay for any of it until the stump is removed and gone from your yard. They tried to cut down the tree and leave it laying on the yard and say someone would be by to get it and they wanted to be paid right then. I witheld a good amount of the money so they would be sure and come back.

Poster OpusX1, post#10, is correct. If one does 5 minutes of independent research on the subject of palm trees, you’ll find palms are in the same botanical family as bamboo and rattan, which are, in essence, grasses.

I second this. We have used him several times and have been pleased and he has done work for several of my neighbors as well.

Second this also, we were told the same for our Courtyard Villa.
