He was Frasier's Dad among other characters. :(

My favorite remembrance of John as Marty Crane was when he dyed his hair with liquid shoe polish and went to a party where he was about to score with a pretty young woman. The hair dye bled into the back of the wingback chair in which he sat and he could not get up without revealing the stain. Hilarious!
