Another great visit to The Villages

Tomorrow I will be finishing another great visit to The Villages. This was my first extended visit to The Villages in high season, so I got a taste of the larger crowds. It was so nice to ditch the winter coat and sweaters and to be able to wear sandals and capri pants for a few days. It was such a treat to hear birds singing, see flowers blooming and to sit by the St. James pool and soak up the sunshine.

Tomorrow night back to the Windy City and reality. Remember Villagers, you may not like having to wait 45 minutes for dinner at your favorite Villages restaurant, but would you rather be up north shoveling snow from your sidewalk and scraping ice from your car's windshield?

I hope to return for another visit in late Summer/early Fall. I keep telling myself "Patience, grasshopper your day will come when you too will become a frog."

We have a hired man to do the shoveling and plowing and we keep our cars in the garage.

We had hired shoveling too, but you can't keep your car from dragging dirty snow into the garage, where it melts and makes the biggest mess. I so don't miss it.

You just brought up one gripe I have about most houses here (that I've seen)...and in Florida generally.

A lack of a drain(s) in the garage.

While you're correct about dragging in ice/snow to the garage when living up north, I always had drains and with an oversize three car garage...could even easily wash my cars in the garage.

Ya just had to make sure it dried completely...before going out again. :D

Thank you Schaumburger for such positive posts. Best of luck and safe travels. I too will be departing on Wednesday back up to Buffalo after 4 wonderful months here in TV. This was my first ever seasonal rental after retiring on 10/31. I was out the door on 11/1 to begin this new chapter of retirement. I have been coming to TV for over 8 years for vacation and each time am amazed at what a wonderful community this is with ever-changing improvements and additions. TV never stops evolving in response to what the residents are asking for. Not sure someday I will be a frog. I love upstate NY in the summer, the closeness of living across the mighty Niagara river from our international neighbors in Canada, the beauty of Niagara Falls 15 minutes away, the Finger Lakes and of course my love of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and all my family in Buffalo.

I am as much an ambassador for TV when I Buffalo and for Buffalo when in TV.

I wish all those here on TOTV much health, prosperity and peace until I return. God bless you all and of course of the USA.

Blessings to all!

I would be more concerned with salt slush. Snow and Ice melts be the salt stays and eat bare metal if not washed off with in dayor two before storage.

We had a drain in our garage too. The problem was taking the dog in and out and keeping him out of the dirty slush, having to jump wide into and out of the car because of the slush on the garage floor, tracking slush into the house, etc, etc.

In Michigan, it was not practical to wash cars in the garage or hose off the garage floor. What water didn't go down the drain would have back-washed onto the drive and would have turned into a skating rink. Plus our garage had other things in it that we wouldn't want to get wet.

All in all, I was just answering what I thought was a rather blasé response by eputnam over the ice and snow issue in the north. Hiring out the shoveling is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.

If we had the same winters as we had as kids I would agree, but now it snows a 6 to 8” or so and 4 days later it’s melting and 50 degrees. I still love the snow and being outside early in the morning watching the flakes fall from the sky. Tomorrow it will be 60 and all the snow is gone roads dry, lawn is greening up. The last ten years have been a little disappointing for winter sports. So as long as the winters are this mild we will keep our house up north to enjoy the cool summers by the lake, and snow whenever Mother Nature gives us our winter wonderland.
