Google does it again !!

A new Google service.....

Just leave it to Google to come up with something like this! Here's a number worth putting in your cell phone, or your home phone speed dial: 1-800-goog-411. This is an awesome service from Google ... and it's free -- great when you are on the road.

Don't waste your money on information calls and don't waste your time manually dialing the number... Here's an example of how it works. I am driving along in my car and I need to call the golf course and I don't know the number. I hit the speed dial for information that I have programmed ... 1-800-goog-411.

The voice at the other end says, 'City & State.' I say, Venice , Florida ,' He says, 'Business, Name or Type of Service.' I say, Firewheel Golf Course.' He says, 'Connecting' and Firewheel Golf Course answers the phone. How great is that? This is nationwide and it is absolutely free!

Pretty neat!

I have used the text message feature from my cell with the number 466453 (GOOGLE) ( http://www.google.ca/mobile/sms/index.html )and find it helpful.

Didn't know about the voice though, so Thanks... I've just put the number in my cell phone.

It is legit, we just used it a few times on our trip north. We used it to find favorite resturants that are not in our GPS. We got the address (which we then entered in the GPS) as well as the phone number.

Fumar, it is legit. We used it last year on our cross-country road trip to the Villages. Now that we're here, I have used it to find businesses that aren't in the gps. I just call the business and they tell me how to get there from wherever I am. It's a very handy feature.

The Google 411 is so legit that my company (another VERY large software company) suggested we use it to save on mobile 411 calls.

PS - Judy, I agree that the reason for the season is in fact the rotation of the earth causing the winter solstice. However the Reason for the Season (with caps) is the celebration of a very special birth day....

I have used this number for a couple of years and you are right. It is awesome!

Another similar free information # is 800-free-411; the only difference is that with that one you have to suffer through a short commercial from a sponsor; but on 800-free-411 it actually tells you, and will text you, the phone # you are wanting to call. It will also tell you the address for the party if you ask for 'details'.

Unless it has changed, 800-goog-411 will connect you directly to the party you are asking for, which is nice especially if you are driving, but it doesn't give you the phone #, to be able to call it back directly, or save it as a contact; nor does the phone # you were connected to show up in your calls on your phone; etc.
