Stream at Sumter

Why is the stream at Sumter Landing across from Sonny's so often not flowing?

I don't know. I never noticed that stream but I will bike there tomorrow and look for it. It has to be man made doesn't it? Lake Sumter is man made.

Because the pumps are turned off. I do not know why the pumps are so often turned off.

ColdNoMore 03-08-2018 04:36 PM

Because it's plugged with creosote. :D

(Inside joke for those that have taken the boat tour and heard about the fake creosote plant explosion.)

I don't think so.

Someone posted a really old map and it showed a lake named Cherry Lake where Sumter is now.

Maybe a urologist can help.

Or maybe it does work...a couple of times a night? :D

villagetinker 03-08-2018 06:53 PM

This may be related to the need to lower the water level at the Morse bridge to fix the land around the footings.

Part of the intercoastal cannal locks system, for Lake Sumter Lines based in Lake Sumter landing..Lake Sumter Lines will sell passengers round trip, one way tickets to the Port of Tampa, and points in between...Be sure to check in, with their seasonal scheduling...Arrival and departing times are subject to change, without prior notice..

yes, Lake Sumter is man made. The bridge was built on dry land. There may have been a body of water there at some point, but it was a peat mine up to the time the villages started building in that area. The water is stormwater runoff, mostly, and the stream is created with pumps.

I found an old topographic map which shows Cherry Lake where Lake Sumter is now. It also shows a canal that joins Cherry Lake to Black Lake and Lake Miona.
