Investing in Gutters

What about gutters, do you get enough rain that you should invest in them? The block houses seem to be basicly hip roofs. That could cost. Our house in Mn. is 22 years old and that cost a grand back then.

We have a CYV. As you will not doubt find from experience, Florida rains are torrential and gutters help route the water from pouring off the roof, damaging plants and flower beds, to the driveway in the front and to the in-ground drain in the backyard. Gutters also helped to eliminate the morning dew which runs off the roof every morning and was staining our concrete walk and patio. The total cost in 2005 for gutters on three sides of the CYV was about $350. We'd do it again if we had the choice, and we'll probably add a gutter on the fourth side of the house.

We had M&M Services do ours. They were very reasonable. We don't have a hip roof, so didn't need quite as much. But it is essential to route water away from your landscaping beds. We paid less than $300 for several runs of 10-20 ft. with four downspouts.

Hills

We have a gardenia designer and they only put gutters over the front entrance so we added them around the rest of the house. The rain had poured off the house onto the cement slab right outside our bedroom and was very loud. Hills did ours and we were very happy with both the price and the work.

I also used Hills and highly recommend them. I have a CYV and felt that the loud noise from the rain hitting the cememt patio was not something I wanted to hear! My builder also recommended gutters because of the torrential rains. It is one investment I DON'T regret.

It took me two visits from a gutter company before I got all of the roof guttered properly. I walked around the house during one of the frequent rain storms and noted all of the areas that did not drain properly and had them put gutters in those areas. It was not that expensive and has saved the plants and yard from deterioration and erosion.

Well worth it to get the roof done properly.
