Can anyone recommend a home appraiser?

I think the best way to get an accurate appraisal of a home is to call an experienced real estate agent and have them do a market analysis of the home's value. It will cost you nothing.

You can Google it, or call local Realtors and/or lenders for a recommendation. If you are considering selling and would be willing to listen to a listing presentation, then it would be appropriate to ask a Realtor for a competitive market analysis.
