Water Consumption Guidelines
 

The attachment shows guidelines for water consumption. I find it interesting that the sheet wasn't prepared so as to show averages of actual use in TV.

Interesting, but you would think they would base it on lot size, not just type of home.

In all fairness the chart does say average consumption. I take this to be annual/12. You might be suprized how close you are to the goal with that in mind.

It is interesting to me how much my drinking water bills vary when I rent my home out. It can easily increase by over 100% from one guest to another. For some guests I wonder how they can use so little, others I am curious if they are filling up a water tanker.

Lot of water waste in the villages. I see irrigation pop ups watering the street more than yard, once your yard get flooded water just runs off down to the storm drains. Then, get recycled and you pay again cause 3/4 was runoff. I walk in the morning and the storm drain sounds like roaring river when I go pass them. How hard is it to turn you irrigation system on take pair of pliers and adjust sprinkler head to where it sprays your yard and not the street. How hard is it to adjust watering station time from 30 mins plus to 15 or 20?

I dare to say the biggest waste of water in most all homes is running the water waiting for the hot water to arrive.

You may be right. In order to shave or shower with water of acceptable temperature I need to run the water a bit. What else can a person do?

The math is 1 gallon/day/person "wasted" if we round up to one minute of extra run time or 60 gallons a month for two people. If you are really into this sort of thing change out your restrictor in the shower head from 2 GPM to a 1.5 GPM and save 240 gallons per month

No, actually a much larger area where water can be saved is the washing machine, that is if you have a top load which uses an agitator. Some web sources quote water usage at 32 gallons a load. Vice a front load at 13 gallons. 19 gallons wasted X 4.5 loads X 4 weeks = 342 gallons. A top load high efficiency washer uses about the same as a front load. You can tell an HE model as it does not have an agitator

Even though I know these stats the money is not on saving drinking water, it is saving irrigation water.
