MCO vs OIA?
I hope someone here can explain the difference between MCO and OIA. We fly into MCO, but every night the weather folks on the news talk about the weather at OIA. Are there two different airports in Orlando, like Washington? I know there's an Executive airport (ORL).
|
One and the same. MCO is the airport code... OIA is the name, Orlando International Airport.
|
Airport was originally McCoy Air Force Base (MCO) and was called Orlando McCoy before becoming all civilian and renamed Orlando International. The airlines kept the original code (MCO). There's also Orlando (ORL), closer to downtown (General Aviation) and Orlando Sanford (formerly NAS Sanford) to the northeast of Orlando....What a memory, I still got it!!!:clap2::clap2:

The question has been answered above....but....
there is another airport in Sanford that is quite convenient to use as an alternative. We have found it to be more user friendly and not nearly as congested as OIA.....of course there are not as many flight choices.
It is an acceptable alternative if one's needs match up. btk |
