Check Your Bill and Charged Amount

For the second time in a month at the same Villages restaurant we've been charged incorrectly. In the first incident, my bill was $25.40 including tip. I gave the girl two $20s. She returned with $12. I noticed it immediately because there was no change. I looked up at her and before I could say a word she said "Oh I think I made a mistake".
Last night my bill was $26 including tip and I put it on my credit card. This morning my wife noticed that the charge came through as $27.40. I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager. I wasn't really looking for anything - just to inform him that this was occurring.
I know these were small amts of $$ but what the heck. Please check your bill, your change and your CC charges.
I know some will ask so here's a clue ----JJ.

They may be small amounts of money but if a person is doing this to many customers, then it adds up.

OK, I will ask what resturant, if you do not want to publish in public area, send me a PM.

I can't think of a JJ. Johnny Jockets? Jwa Jwa?

Seriously, how would the server benefit if the jacked up amount is on a cc? Wouldn't the owner benefit instead? That's weird.

Ah. Duh on me.

I think this has been taken about before but possibly at a cc.

Happened to us at lake Sumter, approx $26 lunch, cc came through as over $60, the manager made a half hearted attempt to check when we called, but we finally got a credit from the bank. My thought was the waitress pulled something, perhaps put the extra towards the tip? Don’t know what happened but it got resolved. Pays to check the statement

Time to refine the cc system. When on a trip in Canada I noticed that charges at restaurants were processed at the table with portable charge machines. The bill and tip are done at the table. Your card never leaves your site and many have a tip calculator in the process, ie, 15-20-25% or other. Hate letting that card out of my sight!

I always put a line in front of the tip amount so they can't alter it, ie., --5.00, then I put a $ in front on the total amount on the check. $25.58, again they can't alter it. And, ALWAYS take the second copy they give with you.

I think Chilis and Applebee's have those machines in The Villages. I almost always use cash in a restaurant because of the way they process credit cards. You give them your card and they immediately put a pending charge on the card, before you sign the receipt. Then, you add a tip and sign the receipt. The pending charge (without the tip) shows up on your online account for 2 or 3 days and then it is converted to a posted charge (including the tip). There is just too much chance for error because the restaurant has to process the transaction twice. Not a good system. I want to see the final amount on my account immediately, and only after I sign the receipt.

I also keep receipts to compare when my statement arrives.
