Meal Kit Delivery Services

Has anyone tried or have recommendations for these services (Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, Plated, etc.)?

I saw that Publix is also offering a limited selection of prepackaged ready-to-cook meal bags.

If you use search you will find couple of threads

I have no first hand experience.

I have tried Home Chef and Hello Fresh. It was really fun trying the different meals and you can make some things you've never made at home before or have not had all the ingredients. These both come with extended instructions and all the ingredients. I found Hello Fresh's produce a bit better. Both were good though. Give them a try. You are not locked into anything if you try them.

Try Public for a week to see if you like the concept.

I loved the idea, and the food was good, but I couldn't get past all the packaging that had to go in the landfill.

I like Hello Fresh. You might want to go to the website of each that you are considering. You are able to read the menus to see if the meals are to your liking. I have found I like the classic selections but not so much the gourmet selections they have but I am more of a plain eater.

Thanks, all.

I haven't tried them because I'm a plain eater, too. (Meatloaf, peas and mashed potatoes tonight!) I want to give a trial subscription as an anniversery gift to some friends who are more accustomed to cooking with ingredients that are a bit outside the norm. The top companies seem pretty similar from what I saw of their menus.

The meals would need to come ready to eat for me to be interested.

I just started Hello Fresh, and I'm quite impressed. Portions are good, and everything is VERY fresh.

You might want to take a look at Sun Basket. We tried Hello Fresh and Blue Apron and Sun Basket.

For us, Sun Basket works best.

Sun Basket gives the option of only two meals each week, while with the others we tried it had to be three. Although the cost of the two meals is about the same as the cost of three with the others, and although Sun Basket charges shipping, we finally chose it. (Even though the cost per meal is more with Sun Basket, it is still less than what eating out could be.)

Sun Basket offers a lot of choices.

I think the quality is good. We usually order from the Paleo choices, not because we are on the “Paleo Diet” but because those meals are protein and vegetables. We often choose fish because that means — well — it means — we are eating some fish each week.

Sun Basket helps us to feel a little righteous about our food choices a couple times a week.

But — I gotta tellya, we really like meatloaf and mashed potatoes and peas, too. Our version of the food snobbery that exists ad nauseam these days is that we peel real potatoes and use real butter and sometimes we mix our microwaved, frozen peas in with our mashed potatoes when we are at the table. :) Enjoy your meatloaf dinner tonight. I know we would.

We recently tried Schwann's and the premade meals have been great. Mac & cheese, spaghetti w/meat sauce, pot roast & roasted turkey have been excellent. They also provide home delivery. We're very pleased with pricing, selection and service.

I like Schwann's as well; am addicted to their hot and spicy chicken breasts.

They offer double reward points for AARP members!
