Grilling in birdcage with shade screen

We have decided to add a birdcage with a shade screen roof. Since I do quite a bit of outdoor grilling, Im worried that the shade screen will not allow the smoke to escape. Does anybody have experience with cooking under shade screen?

Although I don’t have a shade screen over our birdcage, I do bring the grill under the lanai to cook during inclement weather. I’ve not experienced any issues with excessive smoke.

I'd imagine at some point you would be dealing with grease accumulation on the shade. It has to go someplace and generally it is straight up. Most of the outdoor kitchens I've seen have the grills hooded.

Please be careful when selecting a grill location - carbon monoxide can build up without you knowing it. Even if you're standing near the grill under an umbrella. Just make sure you have adequate ventilation.

My grill is located under the lanai stucco ceiling but close to the open screened ceiling which is connected to the lanai roof. I've been grilling in this location for nearly three years and have had no problems at all. The ceiling directly above the grill looks clean and looks the same as the rest of the ceiling. As I said, the open screen ceiling is very close to the grill. When it rains, I and the food stay dry but the side table on the gill does get hit with rain. That is how close it is to the screen ceiling.

OP, we have a similar setup, except, we have 50% sun reduction screening on the roof area of the bird cage, have never had smoke or fumes build up.

I have been in some very expensive homes in the villages and they have almost entire kitchens inside a birdcage (and in some large lanai). May not be the same thing as you take about, but I doubt they have any problems since the main cooking area is covered.
