rafter's all metal ???
this might be a funny question. however, if the walls and rafter's are metal ???? why do we need a termite service....

Metal Trusses
I have seen a few homes built with metal trusses, however 99% are wood. They claim that all homes are treated with a borate solution for termite protection at the framing stage. This link shows all of their construction standards. Go to "Pest Control."

Termites don't just eat studs, rafters and trusses. They eat your furniture your cabinets and anything else that is wood. If there is a crack in the concrete slab, or a hole in the wall, they will get in and eat uncle Rudy's wooden leg, or your cousin Phoebe's block head.

metal trusses
:confused:I currently own a home in duval. The builder at the time was
Todd King. He said the I have metal trusses. Does that mean I have all metal stud in my home. Is there a way to find out. |
If you want to know if your house is subject to termite infestation, the material your studs & trusses are made of is not relevant. Termites love sheetrock and anything (see above) made of wood or wood byproducts, like roof decking etc.
IMHO you need termite protection in Florida...that's from 19 years in the real estate business in Florida. Don't think so? Ask any termite company. |

Is there a way to determine this other than calling the builder? |
metal studs
If you remove the trim plate on an outlet, preferably behind a piece of furniture, on an inside wall(all outside framed walls are wood or block), you should be able to see the stud the box is fastened to. You may have to shave the drywall back a little, but the stud will be adjacent to the outlet box.

You can also call the Villages Warranty office and give them your lot number. They have complete information on your house.

One other thing metal studs can do is dramatically decrease the effectiveness of your cordless phone, wireless internet router, remote thermometers and wireless speaker systems.

Metal and wood
We are watching the building process on our home in St. Charles, daily. The rafters are all wood. The studs throughout the house are a mixture of about 85% wood and 15% metal. Not really sure why the mix, but the metal is spread out across the entire house.

Bluedog,
The original question "Was why do I need termite service if I have metal studs...?" You'd like to know just to know. So would I for a lot of reasons, but that wasn't the question. |
