Grateful

Over the past few days I have heard of some the suffering of our neighbors and friends and it reminds us to be thankful for every day we can enjoy our life. Experiences we can continue to have and our responsibility to help the less fortunate. :)

I was in a burn unit with face to waist burns (22%) wrapped up like a mummy in a morphine stupor, door open when a fellow trauma patient walked by. He was in a protective bandage of some sort that looked like a turtle's shell. We made eye contact, at that moment we must have been thinking the same: I have it bad but least I have it better than that poor guy.

It is all relative, my friend. Just be glad that you are alive.

Experience

I one time had a very smart person say to me we should try for a new experience each day. We will not achieve it but it should be a goal. Another, if you come back with more than 25 cents in your pocket from vacation then you failed. Also was don't worry about tomorrow as if God wanted you to know about tomorrow he would have told you. Just enjoy today's life. It is kind of sad to read the negative remarks in TOTV since few deal with the real challenges of life. I have had my time when it has been very hard but there was always someone worse off than me so what the heck is my problem.:pepper2:

This so true PennBF! IF folks would take a moment and just thank their Creator despite their circumstances. My opinion is no matter the issue---there is "always" someone who has it worse than I do.

I thank my dear mother for instilling this in me. She must have done it so frequently and effectively that it has molded my life in many ways. It's hard to sit long in a "woe is me" attitude when you keep this at the forefront of your thoughts. Also, as NotGolfer said, gratitude to God for all that He provides is also a great mood elevator and restorer of peace.

Thanks for starting this thread PennBF. It is an important discussion to have regularly with all the ups and downs and fast pace of our current society. Bringing discussion to the level of what is really important can be very humbling.

New Thread

It would seem that since we have threads for jokes, 3 word sentences etc. it would be good and appropriate to have a thread to express "Thankful For".:BigApplause:

In my case, it was my father who instilled this in me. He would always say "I used to be bad off when I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet."

Gratitude -- the ultimate cure for depression.

As I age, I am so thankful for my health more than anything else.
