Axis 360 Library app
Am I the only one that really dislikes this app?
I had, for years, used an app called Overdrive, which functions soooo much better. I provided feedback when I was asked to, and of course nothing has changed. Is it a cost issue for the library? A contractual issue? And yes, I plan on stopping by and asking them directly. But I guess it won’t do any good if I am one of the few that finds this app lacking. Please advise if you use it and how you like it. |
I don't like it either and I have let the library staff know it. Doesn't do any good. I think it is a cost cutting issue.
I have cards from other libraries that still support Overdrive and that's all I use. |
I have to laugh because I am always yelling at my I-Pad and my husband says.. you are yelling at the library app again, right??? and of course I am.. I don't recall ever yelling at Overdrive !!!!!

I have to agree with you!
They say it’s a money issue. Uh, how much tax dollars are The Villages pumping into Sumter County??? |
I joined the Alachua County library when Sumter went to Axis 360. Overdrive is so much better. Although, I hate the trip to Gainsville every two years to update my account.

Well, apparently we are in the minority.
I spoke with Lisa Taylor, director of administration for the Sumter County library, this morning (phone # 352.689.4567). To summarize my understanding of what she told me: Axis360 app: - Until about 2.5 years ago, Overdrive was the only vendor that provided an electronic library app. - At that time, the library system started using Baker Taylor, a new vendor that offered Axis 360 for electronic library books. - Apparently, a survey by the library system indicated high user satisfaction with Axis 360. Selection of books: -New books are added monthly; if a library user wishes to have a particular title added, there is an option in the app to request it. - Book availability is dependent upon the publisher’s contract. Two examples are a) a specific number of checkouts, after which the book is no longer available, or b) a specific length of time (eg., 3 years), after which the book is no longer available. - I believe Ms. Taylor indicated there are 7k-8k electronic titles available. I did not ask her the basis for the decision for switching to Axis 360, as I don’t believe it would matter. If it’s a money issue, what will I do? Throw a fund-raiser? Ask for taxes to be increased? I think I’ll bite the bullet and pay $40 for a Lake County card so I can use Overdrive again. |
I despise it use another library card so I can avoid using it My biggest complaint is it doesn't work with my kindles
|
I think I’ll pay the $40/year to Lake County since I’m an avid reader.
Thanks for the info. |
