Anything you left behind you wish you hadn't
For all you full time Villagers. When you moved to TV, you all probably had to downsize your home and possessions. I am in the midst of that now. Is there anything you left behind/gave away/sold that you wish you kept or brought to TV?

My hubby regrets not bringing a hose and container for it. I wasn't going to bring my good winter coat, but now I'm glad I have it. I don't go outside until it warms up a bit so I haven't had to wear it yet - just my fleece jacket.

Today, my winter clothes!!! LOL

I brought a down-filled jacket with hood, and gloves and scarf. I felt silly packing it, but I'm glad I did. I take my dogs to the dog park everyday .. it gets very chilly there as it is open to the wind.
It is especially cool after dark. Lots of peeps stay indoors. I hear that even the town squares are shutting down entertainment, and that doesn't happen often! Pack a few turtlenecks and flannel pjs .. you won't regret it. Also good to have warm clothes for your visits back to the northland. |
My Snow Shovel (and Maybe the Snow Blower)
If this keeps up, I'd add skates.

It isn't something you can fine tune unless you move a lot like military families. I suggest you err on the side of getting rid of too much stuff rather than too little. If you are handy and/or have a hobby that requires specialized tools, you might consider those if you want to continue the hobby in TV. You will also want to consider how your northern furniture will look in your Florida home along with the expense to transport it here. You will likely need less furniture as well as different furniture here than up north. We have gone through two rigorous downsizings and still have too much stuff.

TomW, you are so right. Being military for 30+ years our rule is if we have not touched/used/looked/worn something for 6 months, it is not needed and it goes in the "Yard Sale" closet. We are using the same principle to "cull" our belongings that we are slowly bringing doen to TV. It is especially important now since we are dwon sizing in home size also.

A set of china & tree trimmer
I had two complete service-for-12 sets of Noritake china that we had bought overseas. Sold one set for $150 and gave the other one to our daughter when we moved, thinking my days of entertaining were behind me. Wrong. Wish I had one of the sets here with me.
We also had one of those long, extending tree trimmers that we sold at a garage sale for almost nothing. We could sure use it to trim our queen palms. |
I was so excited about moving down to TV that I got rid of way too much stuff. Wish I had kept more of the things that made my house up north so cozy. So many memories sold at yard sale...wish I had some of that stuff now. On the other hand I have been able to make new memories here and won't ever get rid of those. (if anything has a special place in your heart -bring it with you)

Salt & pepper shakers.
Can't find mine and I can't find suitable replacements. Also leaf blower, comes in handy to clean garage. On the upside we did bring a snow shovel. Looks like we might need it! :D |
