American Martians

Far and away the best band I've seen in The Villages and possibly the best band I've ever seen anywhere.

The guitar player is unbelievable. As good as Clapton, Page, Beck and any other guitarist that you can name. The drummer was not only one of the best drummers I've ever heard but also did much of the singing covering Journey, Led Zepplin, Queen and many others. He played like John Bonham and sang like Robert Plant. What an amazingly talented guy!

Bass player was outstanding as was the keyboard player who also played rhythm guitar in some songs. The harmonies were spot on perfection. You would have thought you were listening to the original recordings.

One thing I found odd was that they had a guy that I originally thought was the lead singer, but he didn't sing very much. he was more of a DJ, talking to the crowd and making stupid jokes. I could have done without him as he took up too much time between songs.

The song selection was fantastic. One great rocker after another.

Go see them if you get the chance.

Sounds great! Were they at a square or another venue?

This is indeed high praise from a falented music professional himself who knows all the Villages resident musicians.

I completely agree there is way too much unnecessary banter. I'm sure they could fit in another tremendous dozen songs. So guys, give the inane comedy routine a break, and just play music, "Let it be, let it be, .....”

Did you happen to catch these guys? I don't usually make posts like this and as you say, there are hundreds of very talented musicians and fine bands here in TV, but these guys blow everyone else away. I was stunned by what I was watching and hearing last night.

American Martian: Live at House of Blues - YouTube

They have a few YouTubes up.

I have seen them twice before at the squares. Many performing bands here usually have at least one outstanding member. But, collectively these guys are tops, and they can play anything. Very impressive.

How long do some of your favorite big name bands/artists play when you go see them in concert? Hour and a half? Two hours if you are lucky? All of the entertainers that play at the square have to fill over 3 hours when you account for the breaks they get. Many, including American Martian (not plural), play multiple dates in a given month at the various squares. This time of year, especially, they are tasked with entertaining a wide demographic. Yeh the guy that seems like he would be the lead singer but ends up more like an emcee could stand down and make room for a few more songs, but he is part of what makes them stand out from the others. A bit corny at times, maybe. But they are an excellent band and one of our favorites that play here. Best of all time and up there with the greatest of greats? That may be a stretch.

American Martian is playing at LSL on July 22nd. Will put that on my calendar for sure. Having seen The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Led Zeppelin live I'll be checking out the best ever claim. BTW, the most fun and together group I've seen at The Villages was Styx at The Sharon. The crowd was in full concert mode.

Standing out from other bands does not necessarily make them better. The emcee guy is a waste of time.

I stand by my description, they are the best I've seen in The Villages. The are many levels above every other band that plays here.

VillageIdiots 06-27-2018 08:40 AM

Everyone has a favorite I suppose. As I said, they are definitely one of ours. But, have you seen Blue Stone Circle? They are very good and very talented as well. I suppose there is quite a difference in claiming "best" vs. "best I've seen". In the eye of the beholder, right? There are many that don't miss Scooter everywhere he goes. While entertaining, he's not a musician (that I can tell), and for me once I've seen the act one time, I get nothing out of seeing it again.

Doc, you're right about that MC guy in front, I have not seen them but on the video I found him to be annoying. My neighbor who catches most bands, said he really likes the Hooligans out of Orlando, they play almost all British Rock. They have been playing here regular. I have not seen them either, here is a House of Blues promo video

Here they are at Brownwood

We recognized American Martian from Disney Hollywood Studios. They were called "Mulch, Sweat and Shears"---would play on the street off and on during the day-arriving in a Landscaper Work Truck. Audience participation was important there---always interacted with the crowd. They are very talented. We are so lucky here in The Villages to have so many talented bands and entertainers. Blue Stone Circle is also one of our favorites along with Uncle Bob, as well as any group with Clark, Cathy and Frances.

Roll With It 06-27-2018 10:36 AM

I really enjoyed this wonderful band as well. I do disagree, however, about the banter. I think all members of the group are important, and I think the banter between the group members shows a nice camaraderie. The audience seemed to be enjoying it very much. Looking forward to their next visit!
