I've been researching and thinking of getting one, so was wondering...if anyone here has a deposit on a Model 3?

Or even better...has possession of one?

And if so...are you pleased with it?

Although Elon is way behind on production promises and the price seems to have increased substantially (compared to earlier promises of range vs. base MSRP)...it seems things are looking up.

You should check out the Chevy Volt. I get 60 mile all electric range. It also has a gas run generator which increases range to over 350 miles if you need it. Can get it with many newer safety features like adaptive cruise control, automatic high and low speed braking, automatic parking, etc. Better hurry, though, as both Chevy and Tesla are getting close to losing the $7500 tax credit for electric vehicles as they approach selling their 200,000th electric car!

You might want to checkout some of the “Autoline Daily” video on YouTube regarding Tesla cars. Tesla is building cars in the old NUMMI plant in California, which once produced GM and Toyota Vehicles at the rate of 6000 per week.

My barber, Dave, at the Lady Lake barbershop (next to the ParCar store on 441) has one on order. Every time I go into his shop, the first question I ask is "what date is the delivery now ??? ) He said he ordered his in order to sell right away with the hope of making a profit. If you are really curious, stop in the barber shop some time and ask him the question.

After giving it more thought, and remembering the only time I broke my own rule of 'never buy a first year model' vehicle...I think I'll wait.

In 2003 I had the choice of buying the by then bulletproof 7.3L Ford diesel, or going with the 'new & better 6.0L' diesel engine.

Could you have an option to buy the Tesla 3 and sell the option at a premium before the car arrives?

I have a deposit on the Tesla model 3. I’m late to the party, making my deposit in April of this year. They started accepting deposits March 31 2016.

They sent invitations to “configure your car” to all reservation holders at the end of June. Currently the more expensive options are available for quick delivery. But those waiting for the base model will have to wait a while longer.

The model 3 will range in price from $35,500 to $75,000 depending on range and options.

If $ wasn’t an issue, I would get the model X, which is their SUV. Both the X and the S (large sedan) have been on the road for a few years now and are considered some of the safest cars built today.

The cars are pretty amazing. You can test drive an S or an X in Orlando, although they do not have a model 3 on the floor yet.

I certainly think electric is the future of the automobile industry. We have Prius’ since 2007 and are ready to make the move to all electric. With a range of 300 miles on a charge and a national network of 10,000 Super-Chargers there’s no reason not to go electric!

I just got back from the Los Altos area in California (bay area). It seemed every other car there was a Tesla. Our son has the Tesla X. He said that most people lease them and there is a lot of pre leased Tesla's on the sales market. Maybe worth checking out.

My son lies in Los Altos Hills and has the Tesla X. His wife has the Tesla S. I agree with your observation - lots of Teslas and Google autonomous test cars in the area.

Check the used car prices. Some use hybrid and plug ins depreciate quickly and are a better deal. Know someone who bought a used Volt and had a solar charging setup installed at his home. A hybrid works great in the villages because of all the regenerative breaking used at the round a bouts. Had a 2006 Highlander hybrid. Loved it but sold it at 90,000 miles.

Watch PBS NOVA Search For The Super Battery. Applications where vibration and or risk of puncture is no place for lithium ion batteries - potential very high explosive force. The whole undercarriage of a Tesla I believe per the PBS documentary is one solid bank of these time bombs. Some interesting safe technologies now being developed. I'll wait.

There is of course a danger, but the odds of a oubcture are a lot less likely, and less danger then every day Internal Combustion Vehicles. In 10 Years there’s only been about a dozen fatalities, for ICE Vehicles there’s Hundreds of thousands of deaths. The NHTSA just rated Tesla’s Vehicles #1,2,and3, as having the lowest probability of injury for any production vehicle in Human History. So if safety is your concern, there’s no need to wait.
