Skimmers at Gas Stations
Does anyone remember if the local newspaper advertised the fact that a skimmer was found last July at the Shell station on 466a near Colony??

I don't stick my credit card in any gas station pump nor do I let waiters take out of sight
|
If want to pay @ the pump with no hassles, buy gift cards for the gas you prefer--we always take advantage of $50.00/for $40.00 card that Publix offers & another reason to dine @ the bar
|
I use a credit card at gas stations, but never at a restaurant. I don't like that the restaurant takes your card away and immediately charges the meal amount before you add the tip. Then, they later re-process the transaction adding in the tip. Why can't they do a single transaction and not take the card in the back room?

How do you keep a waiter from processing your card out of sight ? Typically it’s done away from tables. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I have my credit card set so that when I use it I get an immediate text or email indicating a transaction has been billed to my card, this way if I’m scammed at least I know it’s happened immediately and can take appropriate action. My Chase Southwest card at gas stations sends me a message immediately, in fact it’s sent so quickly that before I even have time to pull the receipt from the gas pump my message has arrived that I had a charge and at the location where it occurred.
Skimmers are a problem everywhere, we spend most of our time at our permanent home in the North East and just last evening one of the TV stations did a special on CC skimmers. |

In the Northeast, at least, they are starting to use a device they are calling a "Ziosk" (probably the brand name). It is a table top credit card scanner that allows the customer to process their own bill. You can even include tips. Card never leaves your possession. I have seen them in Mass, Maine and Connecticut so far. I hope they gain nationwide use. It will reduce fraud in restaurants to almost nothing. |

Nice to know! For those who have never used a Ziosk, they even have a function to split the bill. I haven't tried that yet, but I'm told it works pretty well. |

Maybe local gas station employees should include checking the pumps when they go outside on a smoke break or to empty the trash cans.

Non issue

I always use a credit card to get gas...versus using a debit card.
There are laws limiting liability on credit and debit card fraud, but the time period to be protected...is much better with credit cards. Federal Law Quote:

I use my CC all the time. I review the activity on my CC.
I'm not going to run & hide. :loco: |
Not sure if this is effective, I have scratched the CCV 3digit number off the back of my credit card . I believe the only time the CCV number is required is if you're placing a phone order or an online order. So this way I'm not afraid of the card going to the back room at restaurants.
