Fair distribution of hit movies in the Villages.

Has anyone else noticed how the movie selection for Brownwood seems to be whatever is left over. All the hit movies are in Spanish Springs or Sumter. There are no top ten movies in Brownwood. This has to stop.

One problem is the time of year, not many really good ones out right now. We have the same complaint, but about Brownwood getting some of the better movies and that's a long trek when you live in Chatham. Our observation is that SS get most of the artsy movies while Sumter seems to get alot of family oriented movies. Brownwood, on the other hand, get a lot of action movies. I guess it's all about location, location, location and how far you're willing to travel to see them.

There was another thread about this a while back.

They have been moving the block buster movies around a bit. I would rather not see Ant-Man and the Wasp at the Rialto in Spanish Springs on a small screen. And expect that they will move it like they are doing tomorrow with The Incredibles 2 another one that opened only at the Rialto.

I noticed today that "Hereditary" which currently sits just outside the top 10 at #11 in the nation and has taken in $42 million in it's 33 day run and is still taking in $166K a day, has been dropped by TV theaters. However, "Gotti" which is currently in 29th place and has only taken in $4 million in the entire run of 29 days and is only doing $9K a day, is still occupying a theater.

Hereditary probably did not play that well in the Villages. There were only a few people there when I saw it a few weeks ago. Extremely gruesome horror movie but very well crafted and original. It certainly scared me quite often.

Point well taken but whoever is the decision maker is could stand on their head and Spit Chicklets and people would still have similar complaints. How about closing all three theaters and having just one new large sparkling one within minutes of my house.

We are in great shape to have the choices that we do.

It seems to me like every Pixar film (and I'm a huge fan of Pixar) plays exclusively at Spanish Springs and the big blockbusters like the Marvel Cinematic Universe films play either at Lake Sumter Landing or Brownwood. But this week Ant-Man and the Wasp is at Spanish Springs. It also seems like the more "arty" films tend to play at Spanish Springs. But then I caught Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri at Brownwood. So I can't honestly say that there's some kind of organized plan to show any particular type of film only at any particular theater in The Villages.

I am curious as to what they might do with a movie theater in the new town square they'll be building to the south. I'm hoping that it at least has Dolby Atmos sound, which I quite like. It would be amazing if they added an IMAX theater or, better yet, a Dolby theater (with Dolby Vision projection and Dolby Atmos sound) but I don't think there are enough movie fanatics in the area to support that.

They do have an IMAX in Ocala and several in the Tampa and Orlando area. It would be great to get one here in the Villages even if Fenney is a long way away if that is where the new town square would be?

According to Mapquest, it is 12.8 miles from Barnstorm in Brownwood to Spanish Springs. Not like it's a trip across the state to go to one or the other, or both.
