This is a first for us.

My wife needed to have an insurance form filled out by her doctor. It was a simple forum about if she is being treated for a certain ailment.

The doctor's office called today to inform us that there is a $15 charge for him to fill out the form.

I told them I had never, ever, heard of that before and asked if that's a standard medical practice. The snotty office person firmly informed me that he could not speak for anybody else, but that it is standard practice in their office and that the charge could have been higher.

I guess you live and learn.

Makes you feel like a valued patient, doesn't it?

Wonder if the form even required the doctor to complete it. Doesn't a clerk usually complete the insurance forms? What's next? Charging customers for the receptionist to answer the phone?

If I only had a nickle for every time I was nickled and dimed...

I am afraid that these sort of things may become a lot more common if the proposed healthcare bill passes - if the Doctors can't get their $$ from reimbursements they will look to get it from us however they can. So far here in NJ none of my husband's or my medical persons are asking for anything extra - but then, we're not Medicare yet.
