This years inductees, Guerero, Hoffman, Thome, Trammel, Morris and Jones.


What a shame that these slightly above average players get to share the Hall of fame locker room with the likes of Ruth, Gehrig, Williams, DiMaggio, Clemente, Aaron and the like.

Trevor Hoffman looks quite accomplished.

One on the list had 601 saves, another over 600 home runs. Hardly slightly above average.

So should they just stop inducting people then just because they didn’t play the game decades ago?

A lot of Hall of Fame statistically qualified players aren't considered due to the taintness of performance enhancement drugs. That may change, but for now the clean players' chances are improved.

Thome hit 600+ HRs but was only an All-star 5 times in a 22 year career and never close to being an MVP in the league. I don't think he ever got 1 vote for MVP (his best he came in was 4th). Hoffman only lead his league in saves twice and has a lifetime ERA over 3) so basically he just played a long time to buff stats in the age of the closer. Mariano Rivera played in the same era and was an all-star 13 times (7 for Hoffman). Not Hall of Famers IMHO. They should be the best players of their era (Cobb, Ruth, Koufax, Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Reggie, Seaver, Randy Johnson, etc).

Morris is borderline.

Chipper has a story about meeting the Mick. Chipper did an autograph session in Atlanta with the Mick when he was still in A- Ball. He was from Georgia, so he was already popular in the State.
The Mick had about 25 people for every one person chipper had, which was fine with him. Anyway the Mick was nice and they talked hitting. Chipper noticed he kept a cup with ice in it by his feet. Eventually he noticed he was filling it up with Jack. Over and over again, bottles of it like it was water.

Unsurprisingly, a few years later Chipper read Mickey need a new liver...

Trammel did nothing great. One good year is all and he wasn't the league MVP. Golden glove a couple time, however Ozzie won 12 or so golden gloves in a row at SS. Jack Morris averaged 16 wins a season with a lifetime ERA of 4 and zero Cy Young awards. No HoF stats there. Basically, if you play 20 years and don't have true garbage stats, you make the HoF now. When does Dennis Martinez make the HoF, he had 245 wins. :)

You asked about Whitaker... if you look them both up, and they are the same age basically, in 1995 when Trammell and Lou (both in Detroit full career)... Lou (age 38) made 3.7m that year and Trammell (age 37) make 1.3m. They both played about the same games. And in 1978, Lou Whitaker was Rookie of the Year; Trammell came in 4th that year).
