A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

I read this when I was fourteen or fifteen and wanted to reread it again at fifty years because a movie based on it comes out in 2012 called John Carter of Mars That's kind of confusing as the last book in Edgar Rice Burrough's Mars novels is called John Carter of Mars.

The movie has an interesting cast with Thomas Haden Church playing one of the main villains along with Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, Polly Walker, and John Ratzenberger playing other characters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carter_of_Mars_(film)

You can read the book A Princess of Mars online through Project Gutenberg. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~rgs/pmars-table.html

Thanks, Tal! I love Project Gutenberg.

I went nosing around in Project Gutenberg and ended up volunteering to a proof reader.

Take a look. I think it is a good project.

Also available as a free Kindle E-Book.
You can read it on your PC with "Kindle For PC", a free download, if you don't have a Kindle Reader.:read:

Kayaker, you can read a book on your PC? I can't imagine that. I've heard it said that reading a newspaper on a PC is like trying to meditate in a casino.

And Tony is a volunteer proofreader? Do the words 'English major' come to mind?

Another groundless charge.

The PC is OK for samples or viewing color pictures (the Kindle is B/W only) but for reading, I use my Kindle. They also have an application for "Kindle for iPhone/iPod" (also free), but I can't imagine trying to read a book on my phone.

I just read Princess and was sorry to have it end. I did get a little lost with some of the strange words but am looking forward to the next book. Herb

Um, Tony, think you need to proofread your sentence. (You made one of my fave mistakes -- leaving a word out. roflao) And good on yer for volunteering!

Taltarzac 07-26-2010 12:20 PM

I do that a lot too Tony.

I often leave out a word too and have to go back and put it in and hope that someone does not quote me before I can get back to fix it.
