Schadenfreude. In movies, yes. In real life, not so much.

Schadenfreude - Wikipedia

I do enjoy a good comedy with a hero or heroine falling and getting back up a lot but it is not that amusing in real life especially with the bodies of over 55 year olds. At least mine does not bounce back as quickly from falls and the like.

Any funny tales of schadenfreude? I recall that a certain employee of a dog park thought it was quite amusing when a dog would bark from within six inches regularly in front of where my zipper for my jeans was. This was a few years ago. He seemed to side with the pooch whenever I complained about how much this close proximity barking scared me and would laugh about my worries. And often he was quite loud in his laughing.

The dog did finally get used to me and stopped acting like it was going to start challenging Joey Chestnut so to speak after a few weeks of these antics.

This would be funny in a movie though but that is not real life.

Probably something they would attribute to karma?

Not exactly. I have done great good with my life. This dog park employee as far as I know; not much of anything accept take a lot of enjoyment in watching other people suffer. Often when he could have fixed the problem too or even has greatly aggravated it.

But that's more mean than funny

Yea. I suppose so. But the dog with the zipper fixation is kind of amusing. She did stop barking after she calmed down while playing with various other pooches but it took a while. And had me quite nervous for weeks. I would avoid going to a whole 2.5 acre section of a much larger part of a dog park like other people.

I have to agree with fw. Not sure how you would come up with funny incidences unless the follow-up was a karma-like story?? Taking your example, I don't think it was funny if you were scared and it certainly isn't funny that someone took pleasure in your fear.

Okay, just saw the 2 responses above mine after I had already posted.

Taltarzac725 08-21-2018 07:27 PM

Actually, karma bit me again. But I need not follow up on the story.

It is still ongoing though as far as I know.

But some people must have a funnier story??

Schadenfreude is the GREATEST German word ever! It means in English "one who delights in the misfortune of others"....

There is an awful lot of schadenfreude aimed at Patriots' fans when their team loses in the big games. This does happen quite often at the dog park especially if a friendly wager is involved.

I suppose this happens all over the Villages and its dog parks and varies with teams and their sports.

Chicago Cubs' fans were the targets of this for more than a century. Go, Cubbies!!!

I am actually rooted for Cleveland this Season in baseball. I would really be asking for sorrow if I added Cleveland for the NFL as a team to back. Browns Home | Cleveland Browns - clevelandbrowns.com

I do still really like some other Browns.
