Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

This is the kind of movie that would be good to watch on a 3 hour flight. It's just OK. IMHO

I may wait for the Blu-Ray. Have to check details carefully in many of these 2017 and 2018 movies. "Did I really just see that" is something I have been asking myself and some friends and family rather often. So I need to be able to freeze the frame and double-check it. Now whether it means anything is another matter.

Saw it today. Sweet. Light. Fluffy. A Fairy Tale. A Rom Com. A fun way to spend a little time.

I finally saw Crazy Rich Asians last night. Agree that it is a light and fluffy Rom Com. I thought the lead characters had great chemistry. Singapore looks like an amazing city to visit. One negative -- too many unnecessary subplots. I would give it 3 stars.

I haven't seen it yet, I probably need to. With today's climate of of Political Correctness, I was rather surprised that a movie with a title like this could be made and is not "offensive" to somebody? If the movie had been titled: "Crazy Rich Africans" or "Crazy Rich Hispanics", would it have been ok? Just wondering. Asians don't scream or march for their rights like other minorities, are they "fair game" because of that? Is this movie laughing at them, or with them? How do any Asians out there feel about this movie? I'm curious.

Huh??????

How rich were they? -- Crazy rich. That's all. Nothing pejorative.

"Fabulously Wealthy Asians" would not have been a good title.

interesting, but for one time

This movie was based on the novel “Crazy Rich Asians” written by an Asian author. The cast and crew including the director were Asian. The producers mention in interviews the movie would not have been successful without the tremendous support of the Asian American communities.

Every time I’ve seen Asians interviewed about the movie they were extremely positive. Even if they weren’t bowled over by the movie, they were thrilled it was made.

Fun movie. Did seem to sink to soap opera level often though. Some really great scenery and shots of Singapore and other areas.

My golf partner neighbor saw it with his wife, who was born in Hawaii and is of Japanese descent. He said his wife loved it.

Update, on Friday my neighbor said he took his wife to see it a second time. She's Hawaiian of Japanese descent.
