Decorating question
Are padded cornice boards still being made, or are they outdated? We have just moved into our home and in the process of decorating. I have bought several decorating books and it seems like most window treatments just hang on a rod. Has anyone recently used cornice boards?

My opinion
I'm not a decorating expert but I have been researching colors, fabrics and decorating ideas. I have seen many, many articles and photos with cornice boards and drapes. Even how-to make your own cornice boards. I like them. I have them at the pre-owned home we just bought in TV and I may just try to recover them and find coordinating drapes to keep out the heat. I think it's just a matter of personal taste. But like I said, I'm not a decorating expert. B.K.

been around for a long time, but...
don't think they're in anymore. plantation shutters seem to "just fit" the houses/lifestyles in TV - don't like the vertical blinds that seem to be EVERYWHERE!!!! the hubs & I have made a copper-clad cornice board - that was quite an experience - blow torch applied to copper changes it to beautiful colors - we've gotten a lot of favorable comments on it and it goes w/our house here. It just came to me one day, but when we move to TV we'll be doing the plantations shutters - seems kind of classic and timeless, but just my opinion.

go for what you like...
i think cornices are still very much in vogue depending on the style you like...they give a more elegant and traditional feel to a home, in my opinion. i would like to have some made for my home eventually or try making them myself when i find just the right fabric....whatever will please you is what you should do....

Here is a pic of the cornice board that I just finished for our guest bedroom. I also used some of the fabric and made some matching pillows for the bed. I used a kit that I purchased at JoAnn Fabrics to make the cornice board, and it was quite simple. I like the look of a cornice board on a smaller window (door walls are such a huge expanse, that sometimes the cornice boards look a little large to me) particularly if your curtains are an inside mount. It makes the window look a little more finished. Just my opinion. And even if it is out of style, you won't have to change it again when they come back in style in a few years! |

That looks really nice.

Wow
That is very, very pretty. I love how your lamp matches the theme. I'd have been tempted to carry that material to other accents. Really nice. B.K.

I am going to be shy around you. |
Sue -- I really like the look and the idea of trying it in the guest room. I also have a question about the room. Is this a CYV by any chance? As you face the bed is there a closet on the left? If so, I never thought about putting the head of the bed on that wall. Dang! I wish I were down there so I could try it.
