Land Line and DSL Services in Villages
 

We are ready to transfer our phone service to our new home in the Villages, and AT&T said they do not serve this area. Wonder what phone/DSL services are available and what folks are finding as the good services. Thanks.

My wife & I have kept our cell phones.We use century link,fomerly embarq ,for our dsl. We're very happy with this combination

3 years ago I bundled my landline and DSL w/ Embarq, now Century Link. The cost was fixed at $39.95 for life for a very fast DSL. I have had no problems.

I am going VOIP w/ my landline and will have to see if they raise the price on my DSL. If they do, I'll check w/ Comcast as I use them for cable.

We just got the Sprint Hot Spot Internet connection that is mobile and can be used anywhere there is a Sprint cell tower. It is 3 or 4 meg download speed, depending on location (they said TV would probably be 4 meg) and will service up to five devices at one time. Range is about 40 feet. Instead of having to pay for cable or phone DSL at two homes all year, this device goes to both places and also anywhere in between. Cost is about the same as a 3 meg DSL service with the medical professional discount (15%, same as employee discount). We called to cancel our AT&T DSL here in Norcal. Were paying $24.95/mo for 1.5 meg service - the rep said they could offer it for $15.95 if we stayed on board.

We have a Sprint cell phone but I don't know if it is required to get the hot spot - think the hot spot is a stand alone device.

You can go to the CenturyLink store in Rolling Acres and get a landline with unlimited USA longdistance calls, DSL, and DISH Network for satelite TV, all on one bill.

This sounds like a great alternative to DSL or Cable. If the throughout speed is as you indicated, I would opt for this option every time. How do you use it with 5 devices...is there a wireless router of some sort that you use? When on the road, what do you use on your laptop to connect to the service? I've used Verizon's aircard previously, so do you use something similar ???

I especially like the ability to be connected anywhere I go....
