To Paint Or Not To Paint?
We saw a house that was very attractive except that the white kitchen cabinets looked odd with granite counters that are a combination of dark brown and black. Ordinarily one would presume that white looks good with anything, but for some reason, I really didn't care for it in this case. So my question is: can white cabinets be painted or stained and not chip in the future? Has anyone experienced painting or staining cabinets? Does it look good in the long run?

You should get a professional for this type of project. Preparation, cleaning, sanding, minor repairs (did I mention cleaning), are all critical to getting a good durable finish, I have seen cabinets refinished that were not properly cleaned and sanded, and the paint peeled after several months. I believe there are several firms in the area that do this, but I cannot make any recommendations.

We had ours painted by a professional, and after 2 years, they still look very nice and no chipping. The painter took of the doors and hardware and took them to his shop. When he did the cabinets, he put a tarp around every place needed. They look great!
