Things I would like to see in TV
 

Some random thoughts before golf inspired by Minnie's PAC post. Feel free to jump in. Things I would like to see in The Villages, America's friendliest hometown:

a minor league baseball franchise and stadium. I would prefer a Red Sox farm team, my wife....the Yankees.

a mailman...or mail person....wearing USPO grey shorts and shirt, carrying a big brown leather mailbag...walking up my driveway to deliver the mail before noon. I know him/her by name because it's the same carrier everyday.

a red horse drawn, striped canopied vegetable wagon that drives down my street every Thursday. You can hear him coming because of the distinct jingling sound coming from the silver bells attached to the wagon. Of course the horse is equipped with one of those "catch all bags" strategically placed to keep our beautiful streets clean.

an old milk truck pulling up in front of the house and a milkman wearing a white shirt, pants and hat...delivering milk in bottles carried in a metal wire six bottle rack to your front door or the insulated metal box that will keep it cool if your not there to greet him. Of course the bottle constricts at the top so a layer of heavy cream can float above the milk. Than you use one of those rubber plunger type things that goes through the cream to the pinched part of the bottle and seals off the milk so you can separate the cream. Does anyone have the foggiest idea of what I am talking about?

a guy that drives around the neighborhoods once or twice a month in a modified bread truck painted bright green. It has been converted to a knife sharpening shop on wheels. For a buck a piece, he will sharpen your knives so they will effortlessly slice tissue paper. The organ grinding monkey is optional.

a Good Humor truck that plays music as it winds through your neighborhood. He has got to have the chocolate eclairs with the fudge center and the toasted almond bars.

a red 55 Chevy convertible with a full continental kit and a sweet pair of Smitty's steel packs, parked in my driveway. Can anyone else remember what a Smitty's sounded like?

a real outdoor movie theater

an old fashioned car hop like The Big Top or Adventure on Route 22 in NJ or the one in your hometown

Reality.......I hope I break 90 today.

Oh boy! Fond memories of when I was a kid. I remember the Freihofer's wagon being pulled by a horse delivering baked goods in Albany, NY. This is when my brother and I were kids visiting the grandparents. In the morning you could hear the clip,clop, clip,clop of the horse as the delivery man made his stops. I think his route was the last horse drawn wagon in Albany. I remember the knife sharpeners as well. :smiley:

Past Memories are nice.
 

I remember having a fruit and veg man with a truck/bus on Hillman Dr. in East Paterson. We had a milk man for all dairy, milk, eggs, butter. I used to sell my duck eggs to him.

Oh, we still have the Circus on Rt35 in Wall,NJ.They have car hops.
My wife and I used to go to Johnny and Angie's in Hawthorne?/Paterson?

Pete, I actually remember when Elmwood Park was East Paterson. Spent some time at WPC on the GI bill. Being old Manasquan beach bums, we still have a place 10 minutes from The Circus. Spend our summers up there.

And.... most of them could work!!

what is interesting is that most of those could work in TV m ore than anywhere on the planet!

I think you're talking about Johnny and Hanges. Used to be by the river in Paterson. It's in Fairlawn now. I was just there a couple of weeks ago. Great hot dogs.

Any of the drive-ins along Woodward Ave. outside of Detroit or Skip's on North Ave. outside of Chicago. Fill up with some Sunoco 260 and give The Villages Cruise-in a night to remember.

One of the old type that every small Canadian town used to have. The one was was on wheels.

Beverage cart
 

It'd be nice to see a beverage cart on the courses so when we don't break 90, we have a refreshing distraction from our bad golf.

Don H One of my saddest memories as a kid is when a car hit the Freihofer Bakery Wagon and seriously injured the horse. My best friend's father, who was a police officer, had to come and put the animal down. Then they had to use a backhoe and dump truck to haul the horse away. The neighborhood kids were able to witness the entire episode because in those days we could wander around outside all day without parental supervision.

I would like to see oakwood bbq come to Spanish Springs!..........Right on the square.


The empty Bourban Street building would be a great place for them. That is one business that I think would do well for the long haul.

One of the great things about The Villages is that they allow you to take your own cooler with beer or soft drinks on the course in your own golf cart. Better than looking for a beverage cart. More convient, cheaper and if the beer is not ice cold it is your fault.

Why would you want a beverage cart when you can take your own?

How about Ruts Hut. And Pizza Town USA.
