Who is Responsible for Nicked Aluminum Siding?
 

We have a landscaping company cut our grass every week. I always go out after they are done to wipe the grass off the house.
I noticed some holes in our aluminum siding. I did let them know and they said they would look into it. That was a month ago. Would it be their responsibility to replace it?

This happened to me while I had a contract with SERVICE SMART (yea, I can hear everyone out there saying ... Oh No, Not SERVICE SMART !!!!). But in this regards, they responded to my phone call and sent someone out to look at it. The damage was actually on the bottom panels and on both left and right side of my house. Several weeks later ( I was beginning to think the SERVICE SMART had done me wrong one more time), they showed up and replaced the damaged pieces of siding with brand new pieces. Since our home was over 12 years old, the color of the new siding did not exactly match because the existing had probably faded over the years, but they did replace it. So to answer your question, yes my landscape people replaced the siding that I believe they damaged with their string trimmers. Hope it works out for you. Good Luck !!!! Incidentally, I do NOT still have SERVICE SMART, but in this one case they did do what they said they were going to do.

I wouldn't expect much action from the landscaper. If you can prove that they did something wrong in the way they cut your grass, you may get some compensation, but I think you may need to get the siding repaired on your own. The damage may have been caused by flying stones, which may be difficult for the grass cutter to prevent. If it was caused by a string trimmer, then it was probably the landscaper's fault.

On our first house it was Deans who nicked the siding in the back. I would have never seen it. They called our home, and cell to said what had happened, with pictures. Our home watch person contacted warranty dept, got the name of install company. Sent Deans the bill. :MOJE_whot:

Good to hear. My original maintenance co nicked some of mine and denied it could possibly be his guys. As it turned out I was still in warranty period and it was repaired under warranty. I fired the first co and went with Deans. No problems in the past year. Good to know they take responsibility. Have been very satisfied with Deans.

I had a similar situations with deans, they hit the cap for a drain clean-out. They came to the door, showed me what happened, and arranged for the repair, which was completed the next day. So i would hope the landscaper would stand behind their work and cover the repairs.

I can top that one! We have a large, in-ground propane tank with a 15-inch diameter, hinged, metal cover (it's domed and protrudes 5 inches above grade) to house/protect the valve/tubing that enables deliveries. Mower operators should (obviously) see this and avoid it. However, one time our 'service technician' went right over the top destroying the metal cover in the process...and (reconstructing based on measurement) the mower blade came within about a half inch of the valve assembly. :boom:

Imagine that phone call...hello Service Smart? Can you send someone out to replace my house? I let them know; they replaced it without quibbling. They were off my list of service providers as quickly as possible.

(I know it wouldn't have really destroyed my house but it's fun to imagine the phone call!)

there was any aluminum siding in the villages. Must be up in the old section as if it isn't stucco it's vinyl now.

The lawn service should pay for it even if rocks caused it it's their machinery that caused it.
