New antenna for WVLG
Who here on TOTV is a broadcast communications expert and knowledgeable of FCC applications?
Villages Communications Inc. filed an application with the FCC to register a new antenna. The latitude/longitude is east of the turnpike, about a mile southeast of the Okahumpka Service Plaza. Application: ASR Application A1116609 Can a knowledgeable person identify what type of antenna - AM, FM, whatever? Does anyone know the location of the existing antenna for WVLG-AM? |
Why don't you just send a message to the applicant/owner and ask her?

Actually it's alongside of the FL turnpike. The tower you mention is the existing one. Just click on the "map application" link on top of the FCC page, select "satellite view" and it will show you the location. Probably just the "southern" tower to cover all the newly built areas. Does anyone know what that big shiny tower (monopole) with nothing on it (last time I looked) over on Buena Vista north of 466A is ? It's NOT on T.V. property. 73's |
They only are licensed for AM. This is probably an additional antenna/transmitter to increase coverage to the new areas as they are limited to less than a kilowatt of power output.

Excellent. I assumed that since it was not on TV property it was a cell tower. [emoji3]. Maybe the owners will rent out space to other providers as well. Big money in tower rental. Have a friend in NJ doing that. Better coverage is needed here. I had to dump att when we moved here after probably 25 years through all it's various name incarnations to VZW because there was ZERO signal in and around my home.

AT&T rep told me it would be used by the 4 major cell providers when it is fully commissioned and operational. Don |

Hmmmm. Interesting and surprised. I thought I read in the "other" online "news" service it was not. I'll have to look again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Ahhh, I looked again and it says "private land" which was what confused me then said "owned by The Villages of Sumter Inc." Just remembered the "private land" part. Yet it seemed to have been a county thing:

It appears WVLG is planning to also broadcast on 102.7 FM at 250 watts. This may give them better coverage in the new villages. The details are depicted below in the application to the FCC.

Oh I am so glad that they will be on FM, I need to press about 3 buttons to get from FM to at AM band and then to the correct channel, this will be so much easier.

Just an fyi, we have VZ and have always had a problem keeping a connection with in our Lanai.....calls usually dropped. Just upgraded to the iPhone XS and the guy said that wouldn't happen anymore. Guess what, it doesn't happen anymore.
