Car port conversion

Has anyone converted a carport into a garage? What was the cost? What company?

IMHO, you would probably have to tear down the carport and start over. The existing structure would not meet current hurricane code.

Good point, OP, you might consider calling your local building department, they will be able to tell, if you can and are allowed to do this type of project, if the existing structure can be used at all. Of course, you will need to contact community standards (ARC) for their approval also. Good luck with your project.

Thank you. While I don’t live on the historic side, I have passed homes that appear to have done this conversion. Guess I will just stop by and ask them where they started.

In addition to state hurricane codes, be careful -- check with homeowners in YOUR COUNTY. It's possible that there might be code differences between Lake and Marion and Sumter.
