Two car question

What to do? When we sell here in VA and become FT residents at our home in Amelia, we have a dilema we need some help/advice on. Hubby works in the Miami office for 15 days at a time so he needs to keep his vehicle so he can drive twice per month to Miami for work. He is always gone at least 14 days sometimes 16 at a stretch, so, my thought is I will also need to keep my vehilce when we move down becasue I dont want to be two weeks without a car each month. So, the question is, when he is back home, is there a lot you can use near TV to keep your second car? Do folks use the Waterfront Inn parking lot, or the Sweetbay or is there a lot you pay rent on? I don't think our small driveway is going to work for his truck and my SUV...( And yes I know I will not need a SUV in FLA, but both cars are paid for!) Any help/advice would be great! Just trying to get all this figured out before the move because it is way too expensive for him to rent a car every month and I don't think it wise for me to go 15 days a month w/out a vehicle. Anyone have any experience with this?

2nd Car

I think you could do about 99% of what you need to do in a golf cart. If you travel great distances I would recommend a gas cart instead of electric. If you really need a car The Villages has a inexpensive taxi service you could use. We came here with two cars, suv and Miata, but now we have one car and two golf carts! However, I didn't need to travel to Miami once a month. There is no problem, that I am aware of, with parking a car in the driveway. Move with your two cars and figure it out after you've been here awhile....

Widen your driveway!

Widen your Driveway!

wlou 02-16-2010 02:41 PM

Can't widen the driveway nor use the street parking because we are directly in the shortest part of the curve on the cul de sac...What is the deal with the extra parking lot in some villages that someone posted about? Anyone familiar?

golf2140 02-16-2010 02:53 PM

Check with Fort Knox storage. They may offer you some type of a deal for parking two weeks out of the month. Just a thought. Good luck and welcome to TV.

golf2140 02-16-2010 02:54 PM

There are also storage yards within TV. Check with customer service.

The Driveways are so small there that you cannot park two cars? No garage?
that doesn't sound right.

If true, how could one buy a property like that knowing you need room for two vehicles....

Not trying to cause a stir at all, just trying to understand......

Why not put one car in the garage and the other in the driveway?

Russ_Boston 02-16-2010 04:05 PM

Don't all homes in Amelia have at least 2 car garage? And the Villas have 1 1/2?

If so then you should be able to put the extra car in the driveway when hubby is home and in the garage when he is away.

I guess I can't seem to visualize the problem.

The extra parking that I know of is in villa areas. However, it is (according to the deed restrictions) for guest/visitor parking only.

Some driveways are just the width of the garage door, some are a little wider, and some go the entire width of the garage. Some homes have circular drives, and some even have side entrance garages (only have seen that in premier sections). On our designer we had ours made the entire width of the garage and it made it a lot easier for parking and getting in and out of both the car and the garage. Villas are the toughest, most have narrow drives and 1-1/2 car garages making it difficult, if not impossible, to park one in the drive and get the other one past it into the garage.

The storage areas inside TV are primarily for RV's and there is usually a waiting list for a space.

If I were you I would bring both vehicles and see how it works out once you get here.

I would recommend you check with architechural and see if you can put a circular driveway....gn

Trade in the SUV for a Smart car. Phillips Buick still has the low mileage one I traded in at a reasonable price.
