Thank God, he survived and there were no casualties. Be careful those of you who fly (twoplanekid, etc)

Ran out of fuel!!!
A Cardinal Sin in Aviation, although people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones as all pilots know.
I'm sure the last 30 minutes wondering if he was going to make the refueling stop were agonizing to the pilot. I've never ran out of fuel but have been close before. NOT FUN. The Five P's = Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

never play things that close

The good thing is--->Nobody was hurt.

When I first heard about his water landing in Daytona they said there was no fuel spill. The first thing I thought was that its because he no fuel to spill.... Shame about his plane, glad the pilot was okay.

Just what I was thinking. Never got close to running out of fuel; was climbing through 7,500' one day and lost a magneto, caused the heart to flutter a little bit.

Off topic but I was flying back across northern Arkansas one night after visiting my Dad, who was sick with cancer, and as I crossed above Bull Shoals Lake, I looked down and saw a reflection of a full moon and thought I had inverted; that was a little exciting. Was about my 7th straight day of flying over and back late at night and was a little tired.

"plunges"???

I haven't flown in over twenty years, but as I recall you are supposed to calculate the fuel needed to reach your destination and add 30 minutes reserve.
